Yours of the 29th forwarded to me here in Chicago. Shortly after I started from Oklahoma City I had to go up to Rochester, Minn., to the Mayo Brothers, for an examination and have only been at home a few days since I saw you.
There was a committee appointed by the Chamber of Commerce to take up the proposition of underwriting the $12,750.00 expense of the militia while a Tulsa during the riot. I am sure if I had not had to leave there I would have had it worked out by this time. Major Niles, president of our Chamber of Commerce, is also away in California, as is also Col. Douglas, our secretary. I am afraid now that the proposition will have to wait over until I return, about the first of September, but I assure you as soon as I get back that we will take it up and make some disposition so that these bills may be paid. Mr. E. B. Howard was a member of that committee and I expected he would be able to work it out satisfactorily before this time.
I am very sorry that Mrs. Avery and myself are not able to avail ourselves of your invitation to go with you to Sedalia, Mo., to celebrate the centennial anniversary of their statehood. We would enjoy accompanying you there and also enjoy the wonderful fair that Sedalia is noted for having.
Please remember Mrs. Avery and myself to Mrs. Robertson.
As soon as I return I will give immediate attention to the other matter.
With best wishes, I beg to remain Your friend, [signature] Cyrus S. Avery
