|Purpose||Research reported upon at the symposium focused on sandstones and other clastic rock units deposited in shallow- or deep-water marine environments. These clastics are major sources of oil and gas in the southern Midcontinent, and they have great potential for additional recovery using advanced technologies. The research reports on geology, depositional settings, diagenetic history, sequence stratigraphy, reservoir characterization, exploration, petroleum production, and enhanced oil recovery. In describing these marine clastics and their petroleum reservoirs, the researcher have increased our understanding of how the geologic history of an area can affect reservoir heterogeneity and our ability to efficiently recover the hydrocarbons they contain. We hope that the symposium and these proceedings will bring such research to the attention of the geoscience and energy-research community, and will help foster exchange of information and increased research interest by industry, university, and government workers.|
