Meeting the growing demand for Electronics & Instrumentation Technicians. By Scott Fry, Director Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT) / MidAmerica Training Center Today's manufacturing and processing environments are much different than they were 30, 20, and even 10 years ago. The equipment, machines and systems involved in these environments are now computer controlled and automated using very high tech hardware and software. These changes have made our manufacturers and processors much more efficient and productive. In fact, in the past decade that efficiency has increased by over 50%, mostly due to the advances made in the application of technology to their processes. Of course with the new technology comes new skill sets required to maintain and manage these systems for smooth operations. The technicians in these environments have to be highly skilled in a variety of areas including electrical/mechanical systems, instrumentation, computers network systems, communication protocols, and much, much more. However, despite the high salaries paid for these positions, there is a huge shortage of these types of
