Shannon (R-Lawton) toured OSBI Headquarters in Oklahoma City and the Forensic Science Center in Edmond August 9th. At headquarters, the speaker elect walked through the Oklahoma Information Fusion Center where information on federal, state, and local lev-els is gathered and then disseminated to all law enforcement. OSBI Director Stan Florence also spoke to Shannon about the efforts of several specialized units such as the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Shannon also learned more about how the bureau’s gun licens-ing unit works and about the need for more digi-tal fingerprinting devices across the state for li-censing and background checks. Hill, Ph.D. Assistant Division Director, Information Services Division To ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Oklahoma, the OSBI provides a range of services to the public, police and sheriffs, and other state agen-cies. Organizationally, these services are provided by the Investigative, Criminalis-tic, Information, and Administrative Services Divisions. Information technology services are important across all divisions in helping OSBI achieve its mission. Another resource that helps OSBI fulfill its mission is SEARCH, The Na-tional Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics. Founded in 1969, it is a nonprofit organization whose membership is primarily comprised of gubernatorial appointees from each state.
