Oklahoma Immunization Update November 2012 PREVENTION and PREPAREDNESS SERVICES IMMUNIZATION SERVICE PLEASE POST & DISTRIBUTE TO ALL NURSING AND MEDICAL STAFF Oklahoma Immunization Levels Toddlers An estimated 77.3% of Oklahoma children 19 through 35 months of age are up-to-date with 4 DTaP, 3 polio, 1MMR, 3 Hib (any type), 3 HepB and 1 varicella according to the 2011 National Immunization Survey (NIS). This represents an increase from the estimate of 70.3% reported in the 2010 survey. This survey included children born from January 2008 through May 2010. Teens The 2011 NIS - Teen Data provided the following estimates of immunization coverage for teens 13 through 17 years of age in Oklahoma. 2011 National Immunization Survey - Teen Oklahoma U.S. National ≥1 dose of Tdap 66.0% 78.2% ≥1 dose of MCV4 55.3% 70.5% ≥1 dose of HPV (females) 49.8% 53.0% ≥3 doses of HPV (females) 27.7% 34.8% The coverage levels for all of the individual vaccines recommended for teens increased substantially since the 2010 survey. This survey included teens born from January 1993 through Feb 1999. Influenza The coverage estimates are for the 2011-12 influenza season. Influenza Vaccine Coverage Estimates for Oklahoma from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and the NIS Group Percent Vaccinated 2011-12 2010-11 All persons ≥6 mos. 45.5% 45.6% Adults 65+ 71.3% 67.4% Children 6 mos.-17 yrs. 53.2% 50.4% Children 6 mos.- 4 yrs. 62.4% 64.2% Additional information is available at: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/fluvaxview/index.htm. Physicians Post Highest Flu Vaccination Levels Overall, 66.9% of healthcare personnel reported receiving an influenza vaccination for the 2011-12 season according to a CDC Internet panel survey. This represents an increase from the 63.5% reported for the 2010-11 season. Coverage was highest among physicians at 85.6%. Nurses followed at 77.9%. Coverage was lowest among those working in long-term facilities at 52.4%. Influenza Vaccination Levels among Pregnant Women Among women pregnant at any time during the 4-month period from October 2011 through January 2012, 47.0% reported they had received an influenza vaccination for the 2011-12 season. The information above was reported in the September 28, 2012 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR): http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6138a1.htm Recommendations for Use of PCV13 and PPSV23 in Adults with Immunocompromising Conditions Published The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations for the use of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV) for adults with immunocompromising conditions were published in the MMWR on October 12, 2012. The recommendations are available at: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm6140.pdf. These recommendations replace the provisional recommendations issued in September of this year.
