New Program at COEDD AAA
For Caregivers
Anyone who is a caregiver knows the emotional and physical stress
that comes along with caring for a loved one for any length of time. It is
important for caregivers to take some time for themselves when possible.
One program that has provided some assistance in this area is the
Oklahoma Respite Resource Network (ORRN) Voucher Program. This
program has been operated for the last several years by OASIS Network,
and funds were contributed by COEDD AAA to that program. On June
30, OASIS ended its program and no longer contracts with OKDHS
Aging Services.
COEDD Area Agency on Aging has been awarded the contract to
continue this vital program in the COEDD region. The COEDD AAA
staff felt a great need to continue this service.
The COEDD AAA Respite Voucher
Program will provide financial assistance to
caregivers in the form of vouchers that can be
used to pay for respite care so the caregiver
can take a break (respite). The caregiver can
use the vouchers for hiring someone to stay
with his/her loved one while the caregiver runs
errands, keeps appointments, or goes out of
town, etc.
For this program, a caregiver is a person
that is providing ongoing care for a loved one
over the age of 60, or a caregiver can be a
grandparent raising a grandchild if the grandparent is over 55. Once approved, a caregiver
can reapply to continue receiving the vouchers
at regular intervals.
The program is expected to be operational in four to six weeks. For
more information or to request a Respite Voucher application, you can
contact COEDD AAA at 1-800-375-8255 Ext. 128.
