First, I thank all participants from the cattle industry for their continued support and cooperation – especially the producers who provide data for the bi-annual Cattle and monthly Cattle on Feed surveys. Without their commitment and participa-tion, this report would not be possible. Though many of the statistics in this publication can be accessed through our website on a regular basis (www.nass.usda.gov/ Publications), this Oklahoma Field Office summary will be issued twice a year following the release of the USDA-NASS bi-annual Cattle report. Please feel free to contact our office with any com-ments or questions you may have. I hope you find this information useful! Wilbert Hundl, Jr., Director Oklahoma Field Office O klahoma’s January 1, 2013 inventory of all cattle and calves, at 4.20 million head, was down 300 thousand head from the January 1, 2012 inventory. All cows and heifers that had calved, at 1.80 million head, were down 2 percent. Bulls, at 120 thousand head, were unchanged from January 1, 2012. All heifers over 500 pounds, at 700 thousand head, were down 14 percent from last year. Steers over 500 pounds, at 870 thousand head, were down 5 percent from January 1, 2012.
