Oklahoma Public Libraries By the Numbers 22 million Books and other materials checked out annually from Oklahoma public libraries, almost 6 items for every Oklahoman. More than 7 million of these items are checked out for use by children. The state’s public libraries house more than 8 million books, CDs and DVDs. 17 million Visits to Oklahoma’s public libraries in a year. That’s 5.5 visits for every man, woman and child officially served by a library, and 4.6 visits for every person in the state. 4.1 million Reference questions handled by Oklahoma public libraries in a year—more than 79,000 questions a week. 3.9 million Public Internet sessions conducted annually at public libraries, from Guyman to Broken Bow, Miami to Altus. Oklahoma’s public libraries have almost 2,800 public access computers and WiFi to serve their communities. 1.9 million Oklahomans who have a public library card. 953,597 Annual attendance at programs offered by the state’s public libraries. 1,893 People employed by Oklahoma public libraries making the amazing numbers above happen.
