This event will take place at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum on Chisholm Trail Parkway in Duncan from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a spelling bee, poetry contest, quilt and arts contest, bingo, dominoes and horseshoes. Several vendors from throughout the community who provide services to the elderly and disabled will be there. For more information contact Shannon Casady, program coordinator at ASCOG. CDBG Community Revitalization Applications Due March 29: This program addresses quality of life needs in rural Oklahoma communities such as roads or streets; rural fire protection or public safety services and community buildings. Please contact ASCOG’s CED staff for assistance. Special Focus Facility: A long-term care facility that has repeatedly failed to correct or keep acceptable standards of care can be designated as a special focus facility by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). This would double the OSDH (Oklahoma State Department of Health) inspections, among other things; failure to achieve acceptable standards of care could result in denial of payment for future Medicaid and Medicare admissions to the facility. Contact Ruben Sotelo, ASCOG ombudsman supervisor, for information on area special focus facilities. ASCOG Silver Haired Legislature to Meet: the ASCOG area SHL members will meet at 12 p.m. on Thurs., March 14 at the Tipton Senior Center, 102 East Main, Tipton. For more information, contact Heather Sladek at ASCOG. "Community Living and the Resources to Keep You Home": Heather Sladek will be visiting the following communities in March. The presentation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and the topics being discussed are the importance of keeping your independence, community living, grandparents raising grandchildren, volunteerism and Medicare. For more information, contact Heather Sladek at ASCOG.
