The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the farm of Neng Thao. Complimentary lunch and refreshments will be provided. OK-FIRE Workshops: Two half-day and one full-day OK-FIRE Workshops will take place March 7, 8, and 15, respectively. Both half-day workshops are slated to take place in Sulphur in the computer lab at the Murray County Extension Office. The March 7 workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will consist of various presentations on topics related to fire weather, fire danger, and smoke management, as well as live demonstrations of the OK-FIRE website. The workshop March 8, scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., will consist of this same material, with the addition of other topics and will feature hands-on computer exercises to familiarize attendees with the OK-FIRE website. Space is limited in the computer lab and early registration is recommended. The workshop is free of charge. J. D. Carlson, OK-FIRE program manager, said registration will be accepted until March 4, or until space is filled, by contacting Elaina Wright at 405-744-5425 or elaina.wright@okstate.edu. Since both of these half-day workshops are similar, Carlson recommends interested persons register for only one of the workshops. The March 15 workshop will take place at the National Weather Center in Norman from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The workshop will consist of a combination of presentations and computer lab exercises that will familiarize participants with the OK-FIRE website. Wildfire, as well as prescribed fire applications will be covered. In addition to covering the major sections of the website, other sections, including satellite and radar, will be discussed, as will fire detection by radar and satellite, the relationship of drought to fire danger, and burn bans. Registration is open until March 11, or until filled. Again, contact Elaina Wright to register.
