The Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma has awarded funding to Oklahoma's Area Agencies on Aging for the seventh year in a row. This partnership has also achieved another milestone, serving over 10,000 older Oklahomans during the first six years of operation. Representatives from the Masonic Charity Foundation and the eleven (11) Area Agencies on Aging met on December 4, 2012 for the presentation of 2013 funding in the amount of $720,586. COEDD Area Agency on Aging will receive an allocation of $66,621 for calendar year 2013. The Masonic Assistance Program for Seniors assists individuals 55 years of age and older with health and safety threats. Hundreds of individuals have received assistance in the COEDD AAA service area which has allowed them to stay in their own homes and communities. "This program is so unique because the application process is so simple and services are delivered in such a short period of time," said COEDD AAA Director John Shea. "Many times older people get frustrated with the amount of paperwork associated with government programs and simply give up. The Masonic Assistance Program alleviates some of the stress because the application process is simple and easy to navigate," Shea added. The program can help with a variety of health and safety threats including but not limited to building wheelchair ramps, minor home repairs, eyeglasses and dental issues. If you or someone you know might benefit from the program, please contact COEDD AAA at 400 N. Bell, Shawnee, OK 74801 or by calling 1-800-375-8255 Ext. 128, or you can call the Senior Info line at 1-800-211-2116.
