the Safety Signal February 2012 - Page 1 Academy applicants meet for first time February 2012 (Continued) If you would like to make a submission or suggest a story idea to be published, please send your information to Public Information Officer Deanna Beckham Hargus, editor, via e-mail to dhargus@dps.state.ok.us or call 405-425-7708. With the testing portion of the application process behind them, the cadets were called in for an Information Session. There they had their first look at each other in early February. The session took place just weeks before they began the grueling, intense training of the 60th Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy. Personnel of the Human Resources division checked in each cadet and welcomed them. They provided the cadets with the opportunity to learn information they will need to know as employees of the agency. Key members from various organizations were brought together to address the cadets and inform them of specifics regarding their particular areas. For instance, there were representatives from the DPS Federal Credit Union, the Insurance division and the Oklahoma Law Enforcements Retirement System. Spokespersons from the organizations provided information to the cadets that helped them understand any benefits available to them as employees. Cadets traded information with the various representatives and participated in a question-and-answer segment allowing them to delve deeper into learning about being an employee. Shelly Forshee, Human Resources, addresses the cadets.
