Almost all of the state is considered abnormally dry and 48 percent was in moderate to extreme drought. Lack of precipitation combined with excessive heat and often windy conditions have negatively impacted crops and pastures. Producers are now facing the decision of whether to cut corn and sorghum for silage. Topsoil moisture conditions rated mostly short, with 25 percent rated very short.
