Oklahoma Press has gained intemational:recogt,tition as an outstandirig source

. - ~est, and the fourth jn'tlie western half of the country. When its doors ,Opened
in 1928 many m;rrvelled that Oklahoma~ which achieved statehood in 1907,
should proceed so rapidly in cultural development. ~...- . r •
The Press began as an idea of a, man of vision, William Beimett Bizzell,the
fifth president of the Uhiversity of Oklahoma and a wide-ranging hum~st and
book collector. 'Over the years, the 'Press has grown from a staff of one-the first
director, Joseph A. Brandt-"to an active and capable team of more than thirty~
five members. -
